What is Cat6?

Cat6 (Category 6 cable) is a standardized twisted pair cable for Ethernet and other network physical layers that is backward compatible with the Category 5/5e and Category 3 cable standards. Cat6 has stricter specifications for crosstalk and system noise. It is commonly used for Gigabit Ethernet networks, providing performance of up to 1 Gigabit per second over distances up to 100 meters. Cat6a (Augmented Category 6) further improves specifications, allowing for 10 Gigabit Ethernet over 100 meters.
