Category 3 cable (Cat3) is a type of twisted pair cable used for telephone and data networks. It supports frequencies up to 16 MHz and was commonly used for 10BASE-T Ethernet networks providing data rates up to 10 Mbps, as well as for telephone systems. Cat3 has largely been superseded by Cat5 and newer standards for data networking due to their higher bandwidth capabilities.
