What is Nortel?

Nortel Networks Corporation, formerly known as Northern Telecom, was a global telecommunications and data networking equipment manufacturer headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Once a major player in the industry, Nortel provided equipment for telephone networks, data networks, and wireless networks. Its products included telephone switches, data routers, optical networking equipment, and wireless infrastructure. Nortel filed for bankruptcy protection in 2009 and its assets were subsequently sold off to various companies.
