MGCP (Media Gateway Control Protocol) is a signaling and call control protocol used in VoIP (Voice over IP) telecommunications. It's used between a media gateway controller (MGC) and media gateways (MGs). The MGC controls the MGs, which handle the media streams (audio, video). MGCP is often used for converting between PSTN and VoIP networks. While widely used in the past, it has been largely superseded by more modern protocols like SIP.
