What is H.265?

H.265, also known as High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), is a video compression standard, one of the successors to widely used AVC (H.264). In comparison to AVC, HEVC offers roughly double the compression ratio for the same level of video quality or substantially improved video quality at the same bit rate. It is commonly used for streaming 4K and 8K video content, as well as for video conferencing and storage.
