What is Web Service REST?

REST (Representational State Transfer) is an architectural style for designing networked applications. It relies on a stateless, client-server, cacheable communications protocol -- typically HTTP. REST defines a set of constraints for how the server should manage the state of resources. Web services that conform to the REST architectural style, often called RESTful web services, provide interoperability between computer systems on the Internet. RESTful web services allow requesting systems to access and manipulate textual representations of web resources by using a uniform and predefined set of stateless operations. Common use cases include building APIs for web and mobile applications, and integrating different systems.
