What is Velscope?

VELscope is a handheld device used by dentists and hygienists for oral cancer screening. It emits a blue light that causes healthy oral tissue to fluoresce. Abnormal tissue, such as potentially cancerous or precancerous lesions, appears darker because it does not fluoresce in the same way. This helps clinicians identify areas of concern that may not be visible under normal light, allowing for earlier detection and treatment of oral cancer.
