FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy) is a competing spectroscopic technique that measures the absorption of infrared radiation by a sample, providing information about its molecular vibrations and functional groups. While UV/Vis spectrophotometry is used for quantitative analysis and measures the absorbance or transmittance of UV/Vis light through a solution, FTIR is used for qualitative analysis of the molecular structure and composition of a sample. Thus, they may be used for similar purposes in characterizing materials.
