What is Star Delta?
Star-delta (or wye-delta) starting is a method of reducing the starting current of a three-phase induction motor. During starting, the motor windings are initially connected in a star configuration, which reduces the voltage applied to each winding. This lower voltage reduces the starting current. After a set time, the windings are reconnected in a delta configuration, allowing the motor to run at its full rated voltage and speed. This method is commonly used for motors powering pumps, fans, and compressors to minimize voltage dips in the power supply during startup.
