What is PLC?

A Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) is a specialized computer used for the automation of industrial electromechanical processes, such as control of machinery on factory assembly lines, amusement rides, or light fixtures. PLCs use a programmable memory to store instructions and specific functions that include On/Off control, timing, counting, sequencing, and data manipulation. They are designed for multiple arrangements of digital and analog input and output, extended temperature ranges, immunity to electrical noise, and resistance to vibration and impact.

What other technologies are related to PLC?
