What is soft starts?

A soft starter is a device used with AC electric motors to temporarily reduce the torque and current surge during start-up. This reduces mechanical stress on the motor and driven machinery, and also reduces electrical disturbances on the power supply. They are commonly used in applications where the full starting torque is not immediately required, such as pumps, fans, conveyors, and compressors.
