What is SDP?

Session Description Protocol (SDP) is a text-based format for describing multimedia communication sessions for the purposes of session announcement, session invitation, and other forms of multimedia session initiation. It is widely used in Voice over IP (VoIP), video conferencing, and streaming media applications to negotiate media types, formats, and transport protocols between endpoints. SDP itself does not deliver media but is used to agree on how media will be transported.
