What is RTCP?

RTCP (Real-time Transport Control Protocol) is a protocol for monitoring the transmission statistics and control information for the audio/video streams in a multimedia communication session. It works in conjunction with RTP (Real-time Transport Protocol). While RTP carries the media streams, RTCP is used to periodically transmit control packets to participants in a streaming multimedia session. These packets carry information such as sender reports (SR) and receiver reports (RR) that provide feedback on the quality of service (QoS) of the RTP data stream. This feedback can be used to adjust encoding rates or other parameters to improve the user experience.
