What is Observability?

Observability is the measure of how well internal states of a system can be inferred from knowledge of its external outputs. In software, it generally refers to the practice of instrumenting systems to collect and analyze metrics, logs, and traces. This data is used to understand system behavior, diagnose issues, and improve performance.
