What is NHRP?
NHRP (Next Hop Resolution Protocol) is a protocol used in Non-Broadcast Multi-Access (NBMA) networks, such as Frame Relay and ATM, to dynamically discover the network layer addresses (e.g., IP addresses) of other hosts connected to the same NBMA network. It allows direct communication between hosts without requiring all traffic to pass through a central router, improving efficiency and reducing latency. It is commonly used in VPNs, particularly Dynamic Multipoint VPN (DMVPN), to enable on-demand creation of VPN tunnels.
