What is MBus?

M-Bus (Meter-Bus) is a European standard (EN 13757-2,-3) for remote reading of meters. It is primarily used for reading heat, water, gas, electricity meters, as well as sensors and actuators. M-Bus is a cost-effective and efficient fieldbus for transmitting meter data over long distances using a two-wire cable.

What other technologies are related to MBus?

MBus Competitor Technologies

KNX is a competing standard for building automation, particularly for lighting, HVAC, and blind control, offering similar functionality to M-Bus in some applications.

MBus Complementary Technologies

DALI is primarily for lighting control, and while it can exist independently, it's often integrated into larger systems alongside protocols like M-Bus for a more comprehensive building management solution. DALI can be a sub-system that communicates via M-Bus.
