What is Lucent?

Lucent Technologies (later Alcatel-Lucent) was a telecommunications equipment company formed in 1996 when AT&T Corporation split into three entities. Lucent focused on developing and selling telecommunications systems and software. It was a major provider of equipment for telephone networks, data networks, wireless networks, and enterprise networks. Some notable products and innovations included optical networking, data networking, wireless technologies, and telecommunications microchips. Alcatel acquired Lucent in 2006, forming Alcatel-Lucent, which was then acquired by Nokia in 2016.
