What is Gamma?

Gamma radiation is a form of electromagnetic radiation produced by radioactive decay, nuclear fusion, nuclear fission, and other subatomic processes. It consists of high-energy photons, and is thus at the extreme end of the electromagnetic spectrum. Gamma rays are highly penetrating and can be used in various applications, including sterilization of medical equipment, cancer treatment (radiotherapy), and industrial radiography for detecting flaws in materials. They are also studied in astrophysics to understand energetic phenomena in the universe.
