EMV chip cards are smart cards which store their data on integrated circuits rather than magnetic stripes. EMVCo's main purpose is to facilitate worldwide interoperability and acceptance of secure payment transactions by managing and evolving the EMV Specifications and related certification processes. It is owned by American Express, Discover, JCB, Mastercard, UnionPay, and Visa.
