What is WEP?

WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) is a deprecated security algorithm for IEEE 802.11 wireless networks. Intended to provide data confidentiality comparable to that of a wired network, it was quickly found to have serious security vulnerabilities. Its weaknesses made it relatively easy to break the encryption and gain unauthorized access to the network, leading to its replacement by stronger protocols like WPA and WPA2.

What other technologies are related to WEP?

WEP Competitor Technologies

WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) was introduced as an interim upgrade to WEP to address its security vulnerabilities, making it a competitor.
