What is WCCP?

Web Cache Communication Protocol (WCCP) is a Cisco-developed protocol that provides a mechanism to redirect traffic flows to one or more web caches, also known as proxy servers. It is commonly used to transparently redirect web traffic from clients to caching servers to improve network performance and reduce bandwidth consumption. WCCP allows routers to identify and forward HTTP requests to the cache engines, which then serve the content if it's available in the cache. Otherwise, the cache engine retrieves the content from the origin server and stores it for future requests.
