What is wastewater?

Wastewater treatment is a process used to remove contaminants from wastewater and convert it into an effluent that can be returned to the water cycle with minimal impact on the environment, or reused for other purposes. The main technologies involved are physical (screening, sedimentation), chemical (flocculation, disinfection) and biological (activated sludge, trickling filters) processes.
