What is WAAS?

WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) is a satellite-based augmentation system (SBAS) developed by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to improve the accuracy, integrity, and availability of GPS signals for aviation. It provides differential corrections to GPS signals, enhancing their precision and enabling pilots to rely on GPS for all phases of flight, including precision approaches to airports. WAAS enables safer and more efficient air navigation, especially in areas where ground-based navigation aids are limited or unavailable.
