VLAN trunking is a method used to carry multiple VLANs over a single physical link. It allows network administrators to segment a network logically, improving security and network performance. Trunking protocols, like IEEE 802.1Q, add VLAN tags to Ethernet frames, enabling switches to identify which VLAN each frame belongs to and forward it appropriately across the trunk link.
