What is ultrasonic inspection?

Ultrasonic inspection, also known as ultrasonic testing (UT), is a non-destructive testing technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to detect internal flaws or characterize materials. It works by transmitting ultrasonic waves into the test object and analyzing the reflected or transmitted waves. Variations in the material's acoustic impedance, caused by flaws like cracks or voids, cause reflections that are detected by the transducer. UT is commonly used for weld inspection, thickness measurement, and flaw detection in metals, composites, and other materials.
