What is terminals?

A terminal, in its most basic form, is an electronic or electromechanical hardware device used for entering data into, and displaying data from, a computer or a computing system. Historically, terminals were physical devices consisting of a keyboard and a screen (often a CRT monitor) connected to a mainframe computer. Modern terminals are often software emulators running on a general-purpose computer, simulating the functionality of older physical terminals. These emulators allow users to interact with command-line interfaces and remote servers. Terminals are commonly used for tasks such as system administration, software development, and accessing remote systems via protocols like SSH.
