What is TCIP/IP?

TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) is a suite of communication protocols used to interconnect network devices on the internet. It is also used as a communications protocol in a private computer network (an intranet or an extranet). The entire TCP/IP suite is commonly described as the Internet protocol suite. It provides end-to-end data communication specifying how data should be packetized, addressed, transmitted, routed and received. TCP provides reliable, ordered, and error-checked delivery of a stream of bytes between applications running on hosts communicating via an IP network. IP is responsible for routing packets from node to node across networks.
