What is synchronous?

In computer science, "synchronous" describes operations that occur at the same time or in a coordinated manner, often requiring processes to wait for each other. Synchronous communication, for example, requires both sender and receiver to be active simultaneously. In programming, synchronous operations block the execution of subsequent code until the current operation is complete. Common examples include synchronous API calls where the calling process waits for a response before continuing.
