What is Surveillance?

Surveillance is the monitoring of behavior, activities, or information for the purpose of influence, management, direction, or protection. This can include observation from a distance by means of electronic equipment (such as CCTV cameras), or interception of electronically transmitted information (such as internet traffic or phone calls). It is commonly used by governments, law enforcement, and businesses for security, intelligence gathering, and regulatory compliance.
