What is STS?

STS typically refers to Security Token Service. It's a web service that enables you to request temporary, limited-privilege credentials for AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) users or for users that you authenticate (federated users). These temporary credentials can then be used to access AWS resources, avoiding the need to distribute or embed long-term access keys.
