What is Spanning Tree Protocol?
Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) is a network protocol that builds a loop-free logical topology for Ethernet networks. Its basic function is to prevent bridge loops and the broadcast radiation that results from them. STP allows network switches to discover redundant paths in a network and then intelligently block some of those paths to prevent loops, while still providing redundancy in case of a link failure. It is commonly used in local area networks (LANs) to ensure network stability and prevent network outages caused by loops.
