What is Scan to BIM?

Scan-to-BIM is the process of creating a Building Information Model (BIM) from point cloud data obtained through 3D laser scanning, also known as LiDAR. Laser scanners capture the geometry of existing buildings, infrastructure, or sites as a dense collection of points. This point cloud data is then processed and converted into an intelligent 3D model containing parametric objects that represent walls, doors, windows, and other building elements. Scan-to-BIM is commonly used for renovation projects, facility management, historical preservation, and as-built documentation where accurate existing conditions are critical.
