What is SARS?

SARS stands for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. It is a viral respiratory illness caused by a coronavirus called SARS-associated coronavirus (SARS-CoV). SARS was first identified in 2003. It is spread by close person-to-person contact. Most people who have contracted SARS have experienced symptoms including fever, dry cough, headache, and pneumonia.
