What is Rollup?
A rollup is a Layer 2 scaling solution that executes transactions outside the Ethereum mainnet (Layer 1) but posts transaction data to Layer 1. This allows rollups to inherit the security of Ethereum while offering higher throughput and lower transaction costs. Rollups work by bundling (rolling up) multiple transactions into a single transaction on Layer 1. There are two main types of rollups: Optimistic Rollups and ZK-Rollups, each with different mechanisms for ensuring the validity of off-chain transactions.
