What is RESTful architectures?

RESTful architectures are a software architectural style that defines a set of constraints to be used for creating Web services. REST, or Representational State Transfer, relies on a stateless, client-server communication protocol, typically HTTP. RESTful applications use HTTP methods (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE) to perform operations on resources, identified by URLs. It is commonly used for building APIs that allow different software systems to communicate and exchange data over the internet in a standardized way.
