What is REM?

REM is a common abbreviation for "Rapid Eye Movement", which refers to a stage of sleep characterized by rapid eye movements, increased brain activity, and muscle relaxation. It is often associated with dreaming. Although REM is generally associated with human sleep, this term is used within computer science to describe a comment or remark within computer programming code, and is short for the word 'Remark'.
