What is RELAP5?

RELAP5 is a light water reactor transient analysis code developed by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). It's used to simulate thermal-hydraulic behavior during various reactor transients, such as loss-of-coolant accidents (LOCAs) and other operational events. It models the reactor coolant system, including the core, steam generators, and pressurizer, to predict system pressures, temperatures, and flow rates.
