What is real-time RT-PCR?

Real-time RT-PCR (real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) is a laboratory technique combining reverse transcription of RNA into DNA and amplification of specific DNA targets using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). It is used to quantify the abundance of specific RNA molecules in a sample. It's commonly used for gene expression analysis, viral load quantification, and detection of pathogens.
