What is raster?

Raster graphics, also known as bitmap graphics, represent images as a grid of pixels (picture elements). Each pixel is assigned a specific color, and the collection of these colored pixels forms the image. Raster images are resolution-dependent, meaning their quality degrades when scaled up beyond their original size. Common uses include digital photographs, web graphics, and images where fine detail and color variations are important. They are widely used because they efficiently store images with complex color gradations. Standard file formats include JPEG, PNG, GIF, and TIFF.
