What is PPG?
PPG most commonly refers to Photoplethysmography. It is an optical technique used to detect volumetric changes in blood in peripheral circulation. It is often used in wearable devices to measure heart rate, heart rate variability, respiratory rate, and even blood oxygen saturation. PPG sensors typically use LEDs and photodetectors to measure the amount of light reflected or transmitted through the skin. The changes in light intensity correlate with changes in blood volume during each cardiac cycle.
