What is Port Forwarding?

Port forwarding, also known as port mapping, is a networking technique that redirects network traffic from one port number to another. It is often used to allow devices on a private network (behind a firewall or router) to be accessible from the public internet. For example, you might forward traffic from port 80 on the router to port 80 on a web server inside the network, allowing external users to access the web server.
