**PORT**

What is PORT?

In computer networking, a port is a communication endpoint. At the software level, within an operating system, a port is a logical construct that identifies a specific process or a type of network service. A port is always associated with an IP address of a host and the protocol type used for communication, thereby completing the destination or origination address for a communications session. Common uses include distinguishing between web traffic (port 80 or 443), email traffic (port 25, 110, or 143), and other network services running on a single computer. Port numbers are typically 16-bit unsigned integers, ranging from 0 to 65535.
