What is Policy Based Routing?

Policy-Based Routing (PBR) is a technique used in computer networking where routing decisions are made based on policies set by the network administrator, rather than solely on the destination IP address. This allows for more granular control over network traffic, enabling routing based on source IP address, application type, or other criteria. PBR is commonly used for load balancing, prioritizing certain types of traffic, and implementing Quality of Service (QoS) policies. For instance, a network admin might route all video streaming traffic through a high-bandwidth link while routing email traffic through a lower-bandwidth link.
