What is Platform Events?

Platform Events are a Salesforce technology that enables the delivery of secure, scalable, and customizable event notifications within the Salesforce platform or from external sources. They are based on a publish/subscribe model, where publishers (event producers) send out event messages and subscribers (event consumers) listen for and process those messages.
