What is Place & Route?

Place & Route (P&R) is a stage in the design of integrated circuits. It involves physically placing the designed circuit components (standard cells, macro blocks, etc.) onto the silicon die and then routing the connections between them. The goal is to optimize for area, performance (speed), power consumption, and manufacturability. Place and Route tools are essential for automated design flows in modern VLSI design.
