What is Pivotal?

Pivotal Software, Inc. (now part of VMware) offered a suite of products and services focused on cloud-native application development and infrastructure. Their most well-known product was Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF), a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) designed to help enterprises build, deploy, and manage applications quickly and efficiently. PCF provided a standardized environment for developers, automating many of the underlying infrastructure tasks and allowing them to focus on writing code. Other offerings included Pivotal Greenplum (a massively parallel data warehouse) and GemFire (an in-memory data grid). While the 'Pivotal' brand is less prominent now, many of the technologies and concepts they pioneered are still relevant within VMware and the broader cloud-native ecosystem.
