What is PHS?

PHS (Personal Handy-phone System) is a digital cellular telecommunications standard used in Japan, Taiwan and a few other countries. It's similar to DECT and was commonly used for mobile voice and data communication, particularly in urban areas. It offered relatively low cost and good voice quality but has been largely superseded by more advanced mobile technologies like 3G and 4G.
