What is OLT?

OLT stands for Optical Line Termination. It is an endpoint hardware device located in a central office (CO) of a fiber to the premises (FTTP) network. An OLT typically includes the following functional parts: Central Control and Switching function (control plane), OLT PON ports (service plane), and Uplink ports (service plane). Its main function is to convert the optical signal to an electrical signal and vice versa.

What other technologies are related to OLT?

OLT Competitor Technologies

DSLAM (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexer) is a technology used in traditional copper-based internet access, providing an alternative to fiber-based PON technologies using OLT.
