What is nuclear?

Nuclear technology involves reactions of atomic nuclei. The most prominent use is in nuclear power plants, where controlled nuclear fission generates heat to produce steam, which then drives turbines to generate electricity. Nuclear technology is also used in medicine for diagnostics and treatment (e.g., X-rays, radiation therapy), in industry for gauging and sterilization, and in scientific research for various applications.
