What is Normalization?

Normalization is a database design technique that reduces data redundancy and eliminates undesirable characteristics like insertion, update, and deletion anomalies. It involves organizing data into tables in such a way that the results of using the database are unambiguous and as intended. This is typically achieved by dividing databases into two or more tables and defining relationships between the tables. The goal is to isolate data so that changes to an attribute can be made in only one table and then propagated through the rest of the database using defined relationships.
